Parcours / Lebenslauf / Professional experience
Claudia Huber initially received training in general nursing at the Krankenpflegeschule Zürich. She then worked in different acute care settings for several years in Zurich, Berne and Fribourg. During that time, she developed a profound interest in non-communicable diseases and the care of people living with chronic conditions.
In 1999, she obtained her specialist diploma in diabetes nursing in Switzerland. At the same time, she began to actively engage in national and international nursing organisations and care networks that encouraged her to continue her studies. She obtained her Master of Science in Diabetes at the Roehampton University London in 2009. She has been working as a diabetes nurse specialist and as an advanced nurse practitioner in collaboration with general practitioners and other healthcare professionals in primary care ever since.
Claudia Huber obtained her PhD in nursing at the renowned Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at King's College London in 2019. During her doctorate, she focused on the integration of self-management education into the routine care of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and explored conditions that influence the development of self-management behaviour. Her studies were supported by the Swiss Nursing Science Foundation.
Since 2019, she works at the School of Health Sciences Fribourg. Her research focuses on self-management, chronic diseases and complex interventions and she is involved in teaching and supervising of students in the Bachelor and Master programmes of Nursing and Osteopathy.
Claudia Huber is co-president of swissprevent since 25 November 2022 together with Prof. Marcel Arnold, senior physician at the Inselspital in Berne (swissprevent - Vorstand & Vertreter Fachgesellschaften)
